St. Cuthbert — Project Overview
A compact, highly detailed project with a sleek, modern architectural finish. Despite its modest scale, St. Cuthbert is one of our most design-led builds to date, delivered on a rapid construction programme due to its efficient footprint and clear detailing.
The external palette is defined by anthracite standing seam zinc roof coverings, zinc wall panelling, and Crittall-style glazing, including double doors and a single glazed door opening onto the garden. Calibrated Indian sandstone was selected for the exterior hard landscaping, allowing the new structure to sit comfortably within the existing mature garden.
Internally, the space is carefully composed using 18mm birch plywood feature walls with exposed end grain, complemented by clean shadow lines and simple floor-to-ceiling elements that rely on precision rather than ornament. The lighting design combines pendants and downlights, with a single-pitched glazed rooflight positioned above the dining area to introduce changing natural light throughout the day.
Construction was undertaken using masonry blockwork with cavity insulation, supported by a concealed internal steel structure — the most technically demanding aspect of the build. All steelwork was measured and ordered following footing excavation to ensure accuracy and efficiency on site, contributing to a smooth overall construction process.
The completed project delivers a crisp architectural aesthetic with straight, disciplined lines, framed views through the rooflight, and a seamless relationship between the new build and its landscaped surroundings.
